Andrew Wahl continued to turn out a new editorial cartoon weekly in 2006. The main outlet for his new work was The Wenatchee World, a midsize daily newspaper in Washington state, along with this Web site, offthewahl.com. His cartoons also appeared as part of several other Web sites and publications.
Checking the Gauge [Archive No. 0617] received a Citation of Excellence in the 2006 United Nations Correspondents Association Ranan Lurie Political Cartoon Awards, making Andrew the first American cartoonist to earn that honor in consecutive years.
Checking the Gauge was also reprinted in the 2007 edition of Pelican Publishings Best Editorial Cartoons of the Year series.
A portfolio featuring Checking the Gauge, along with Middle East, Summer 2006 [Archive No. 0624] and Capitol Foreclosure [Archive No. 0640], received an honorable mention in the Society of Professional Journalists Excellence in Journalism Awards for Region 10, which included daily newspapers of all sizes in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington.
