Amazing Adventures #24
Published and © by Marvel, May 1974

Title: “For He’s a Jolly Dead Rebel!”
Synopsis: In the shadow of the Lincoln Memorial, Killraven and crew fight to escape the High Overlord, mutants and human slaves.

Writer: Don McGregor
Penciler: Herb Trimpe
Inker: Jack Abel

Review: While still lacking an overarching story arc, Don McGregor is doing a good job of developing this series’ supporting cast. This issue features several strong character moments, in addition to action aplenty. The art on Killraven remains inconsistent, as yet another inker fills in over Herb Trimpe’s journeyman pencils.

Title: “The Painting”
Synopsis: A shady art dealer tries to acquire a painting from a Gypsy artist through illicit means.

Writer: Uncredited
Penciler: Steve Ditko
Inker: Ditko

Review: This simple-but-clever short from Journey Into Mystery #71 features vintage pre-Spidey art from the legendary Steve Ditko.

Grade (for the entire issue): B

Second opinion: “2 1/2 out of 4 stars.” – Comics Buyer’s Guide #1655, July 2009

Cool factor: The supporting cast is starting to come together.

Collector’s note: Collector’s note: Beware, this issue contains a Marvel Value Stamp (Series A) #58 (The Mandarin). … According to MyComicShop.com, there is a Mark Jewelers variant of this issue.

Character quotable: “This place Washington may not be hell – but it comes as close to it as I want to get!” – Killraven, Capitol commentator
