The Legion of Super-Heroes #308
Published and © by DC, February 1984

Title: “… And the Sky Itself Shall Burn!”
Synopsis: A team of Legionnaires battle the Prophet, a priest given massive powers by a mysterious entity called Omen.

Writers (plot): Paul Levitz and Keith Giffen
Writer (script): Levitz
Penciler: Giffen
Inker: Larry Mahlstedt

Review: The shell shock caused by the previous issue (see review) continues, as this poor-man’s Galactus tale rolls on. Paul Levitz’s story again feels rushed, leaving the reader confused and overwhelmed. Keith Giffen’s experimentation with a new art style adds to the chaos. A marked step down from earlier issues.

Title: “Guess What’s Coming to Dinner?”
Synopsis: Things are tense when Colossal Boy brings home his new Durlan bride, Yera, to meet his parents.

Writers (plot): Paul Levitz and Keith Giffen
Writer (script): Levitz
Penciler: George Tuska
Inker: Larry Mahlstedt

Review: As with Curt Swan’s recent work (see review of LoSH #306), George Tuska’s art is a poor fit here.

Grade (for the entire issue): C+

Cool factor: Nope. Uh-uh. Moving right along.
Not-so-cool factor: Seriously, the drop of in quality is precipitous.

Notable: The “Legion Outpost Extra” includes the first installment of the Legion Constitution.
Collector’s note: According to the Grand Comics Database, there is a 95¢ Canadian variant of this issue. … According to MyComicShop.com, there is also a Mark Jewelers variant.

Character quotable: “Your sin of pride is great, my child. You must be punished.” – The Prophet, practicing that old-time religion
