Title: “Land of the Titans”
Synopsis: Warlord is imprisoned in a land ruled by Titans and – shocker – has to fight his way out of an arena.

Writer: Mike Grell
Penciler: Grell
Inker: Vince Colletta

Review: Sometimes, this series feels like it’s stuck on repeat. Here we are again, with Travis Morgan trapped in an arena, fighting and killing and upsetting the status quo. There are some interesting utterances about freedom and governance, but nothing that’s ever developed beyond the moment. And there’s an unsettling bit of genocide as Warlord wipes out an entire race of Titans. He also gains a new ally in Shakira, another scantily clad warrior woman. But this one inexplicably turns into a cat on the last page of the story. Huh? A little explanation would’ve been nice.

Grade: B

Cool factor: Shakira is a welcome addition to the supporting cast.
Not-so-cool factor: Speaking of the supporting cast, whatever happened to them?

Notable: First appearance of Shakira. … According to the annual statement of ownership on the “Chain Mail” letters page, Warlord had an average total paid circulation of 89,508 for the 12 months preceding Oct. 11, 1979.

Character quotable: “Stimulate him.” – Amarant, queen of the Titans
